  • Lila-Lou’s “Curvelle: Giant luxury Catamaran

    Tweet Ok, we could not resist including this item, even though the connection to South Africa is slightly nebulous. LILA-LOU, a yacht design studio based in London, recently released details of their 33-meter motor catamaran: the Curvelle 33X9. This is the same firm that built 8 penthouses in Cape Town, South Africa. Their website states that the studio is currently working on the interior design of the Curvelle range of fractional ownership superyachts, and the conceptual exterior and interior styling of motor and sailing yachts between 45m-108m.

  • The Maverick 400 shines again at SABBEX award ceremony

    Tweet The South African Boatbuilders Export Council, SABBEX, reports in their May 2010 newsletter that Rudi Pretorius of Maverick Yachts was awarded the Best Sailing Craft for the Maverick 400. This is the second consecutive win for the model. The ceremony took place at the 2nd Annual African Boating Conference, hosted at Crystal Towers Hotel on April 15-16, 2010. The also report that Peter Cheales, the founder off the world’s largest customer review website, Hello Peter, gave a feature presentation.   • Solar Power Catamaran may visit Cape Town

    Tweet The world’s largest solar powered catamaran, PlanetSolar, could visit South Africa in an attempt to avoid any potential run-ins with Somali pirates which operate near the Red Sea (the projected last leg of it’s world trip). Almost 102 feet in length it will travel the world powered only by sunlight. The catamaran recently made an appearance at the Hamburg Port Festival in Germany around May 8th and has been garnering quite a bit of world press.   • Leopard 38 climbs above competition at Asia Boating Award Ceremony

    Tweet At the recent Gold Coast Hong King Boat show in May, 2010, the Leopard 38 won Asia Boating Award for Best Production Multihull. Built by Robertson and Caine and designed by Morrelli & Melvin, there are now over 800 Leopard catamarans sailing the world today. Common Leopard Catamarans features include, high powered engines, electronics, hard top bimini, high capacity water and fuel tanks and electric windlass.
